Hi there
I currently have a wordpress.com blog. I am planning to get a domain and hosting
The thing is I’m not sure which plan to get.
Let’s take Bluehost for example. Am I supposed to get the sharing hosting or WordPress hosting?
If I get the sharing hosting, can I still transfer my existing blog to Bluehost or must I get the WordPress hosting?
I’m a little confused here, so I hope you can shed some light on this.
Thanks
Hi Mic,
First of all if you serious on your blog, please avoid free blog hosting such as blogspot and wordpress.com. They can shut down your blog at any time, without warning and no way to retrieve your content. Your efforts over the years would be lost and wasted.
To start a wordpress blog, i highly recommend you to use self-hosted WordPress on shared web hosting plan from Bluehost or Hostgator. If only run a single blog, start with cheaper or most basic plan (Hostgator hatchling Plan or Bluehost starter plan). But if you have or plan to have more blogs(multiple domain), i recommend you to start with Hostgator baby Plan or Bluehost plus plan.
Shared web hosting is a good way to get started for blog because most of new blogs are not receiving millions of page views per month on their first year of blogging. There is no reason why you should pay a high cost for the resources or hosting plan that you will not use. In your case, i am not recommend to start with WordPress hosting because it usually expensive than shared hosting.
However, you need to upgrade to a better hosting solution or plan as soon as you start getting traffic. Usually your shared hosting provider will often tell you if you are reaching the shared hosting plans limits and would advise you to upgrade to better plan.
You can still transfer your existing blog to Bluehost or hostgator. Just contact the their support. I will write articles on how to transfer a blog to hostgator and bluehost.
Thanks
